Competencies are the building blocks for capability. Capability arises from the application of competencies in situations that transcend those in which the competencies of an individual were developed; capability takes an individual beyond competency.
Leaders require competencies in both the behaviours of leadership and in the technical tasks of management. This Leadership Competencies Framework addresses both the behavioural competencies and the technical management competencies for leaders.
The framework provides for three levels of leadership - operational, tactical and strategic. The Leadership Development Programme addresses the behavioural competencies for tactical and strategic leadership. It also addresses the marketing technical competency. All of the technical competencies for leaders are addressed by other courses and programmes offered by the Organisation Development Institute.
