Dr Michelle Shields

Consultant/Facilitator/Coach

Michelle is an independent Human Resource Development Consultant. With over 20 years of experience in industry and academia, she brings a unique blend of evidence-based applied learning to the organisations with whom she works.

Michelle has worked with numerous organisations in both New Zealand and around the world including Unison Group, Air New Zealand, Emirates Airlines, Jumeriah Group, Airways New Zealand, Manukau and Waikato District Health Boards, Ballance Agri-Nutrients, Federated Farmers, Brightwater Engineering, Taege Engineering; AgResearch, Telecom New Zealand, IBM, and American Airlines.

The work she has performed includes the design and delivery of leadership programmes; assessment and redesign of performance management systems; development of HR strategy; development of competency frameworks; implementation of HR information systems; 360^o reviews and feedback; facilitation of shared purpose and vision; and design and delivery of workshops in change management, relational leadership, negotiation, courageous conversations, advocacy and influence, systems thinking, Appreciative Inquiry, high performing teams, coaching skills, customer satisfaction and Total Quality Management, prioritisation and delegation, Tipping Point, self-awareness, collaboration skills, and Belbin Team Roles.

From 2008 to 2012 she was National Manager for Learning and Development with AgResearch. As part of her work, she developed leadership and cultural change programmes designed to build high performance teams and enhance collaborative stakeholder relationships. Since then she has used group facilitation techniques to bring about organisational change working in partnership with organisational development providers throughout New Zealand and internationally.

Before taking up permanent residency in New Zealand in 2002, Michelle worked as a consultant with several North American companies including American Airlines, IBM, Nortel Networks and Bell Northern Research. She is the founder of Fulcrum Associates.
