Simon Carey

Consultant/Facilitator

Simon Carey has over 25 years' professional accounting experience, including providing business and strategic advice and training/facilitation in strategic planning, succession planning, profit and process improvement, and organisational change.

He has worked over many industry sectors, and has specific experience with charitable trusts, infrastructure including irrigation and electricity generation, manufacturing, farming, transport and logistics, construction and professional services.

Simon has been a Director and Partner of Grant Thornton New Zealand and is currently a member of the External Reporting Board, which has been responsible for the introduction of a multi-tiered accounting standards framework into New Zealand. He is an advisor to many of his clients in an 'Advisory Board' capacity.

Simon works across a range of stakeholder groups in many assignments to drive change, including introduction and implementation of technology, and using this to improve performance reporting in organisations. Areas of experience include:

  • profit improvement including developing Key Performance Indicators (financial and non-financial)
  • chairing monthly and regular client and advisory board meetings
  • strategic planning facilitation
  • business purchase due diligence and financing
  • business turnaround, restructure and profit improvement
  • business succession and planning
  • project management and implementation
  • accountability frameworks and implementing change in medium sized businesses using technology.

  • Bachelor of Commerce
  • Diploma of Commerce
  • Member of Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand (Public Practice)
  • Chartered Member of Institute of Directors
