This interactive workshop will help you to better understand the roles and functions of the Engineer to the Contract under NZS 3910. It is designed for those who already have some experience in the management of construction projects.

The workshop includes short talks, discussion sessions, quizzes, example case studies and exercises which are based on realistic contractual situations, including the practice of contract management skills in quantitative exercises.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of:

  • the background to development of the NZS 3910/3916/3917 suite of contracts
  • the principles embedded in some recent New Zealand and foreign court judgements
  • the rules and subtleties of important business processes embedded in NZS 3910
  • the roles of Engineer’s Representative and Engineer to the Contract in contract management, their limits of authority, and the additional delegations that can be implemented
  • good practice in issuing instructions, ordering variations and certifying sums for payment under the contract.
